Day In My Life: Jessica Poilucci
I am a senior manager of PR/Marketing in Boston, MA!
8am – I wake up. The biggest perk of WFH is that I don’t have to be up early commuting, which is ideal for someone who, as much as I try, is not a morning person. The first thing I do when I wake up is check my emails (I reply to anything urgent and save the rest for 9am because life is all about balance). Then, I make myself a tea and watch the TODAY Show.
9am – I kick-off my workday.
Working in PR means that keeping up on the morning shows is actually part of the job, so if there are any segments coming up that might be relevant to my clients, I tend to start my workday from the couch with my laptop in hand and the TODAY show or GMA playing in the background. If none of the segments seem relevant to my clients, I shut off the TV and head to my desk, where I continue answering emails and make my list of to-do’s for the day.
9:30am – Time to get pitching! I’ve got some clients working on some exciting things and after spending the last few days putting together the perfect press release about their news and curating a list of writers, editors, producers, etc., I start sending out pitches.
11:00am – The rest of the morning is spent curating content for social media clients, coming up with new story angles to bring up at the day’s meetings, answering emails, chatting with our awesome interns, and researching some influencers to potentially work with.
1:00pm – Time for an IRL meeting. Luckily today’s is walking distance from my place, so I pop-in my AirPods, queue up a podcast, and walk over. We discuss all recent media hits, upcoming opportunities, and new story angles with the client. Personally, I love in person meetings. Nothing gets the ideas flowing quite like being together and bouncing ideas off one another.
2:00pm – I get home from the meeting and make myself lunch. My go-to lately has been a kale salad with roasted grape tomatoes, feta, and slivered almonds (shoutout TikTok for the recipe).
2:30pm – I get back to work, this time doing some design work for client’s social media and deliverables for some upcoming in-person events we have planned.
3:30pm – Zoom-time. We have weekly status meetings with our clients that are in other parts of the country, keeping them updated on what we’ve been up to and getting any new info about their launch, new products, partnerships, etc.
4:15pm – I spend the rest of the workday editing a landing page for a client – we’re doing a contest to build their email list and want the page to pop – and reading through and editing a client’s answers to a media interview.
5:00pm - While I sometimes end up working well past 5, today was a finish on time day and I am ready to relax a bit. I spend some time catching up on TV (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or New York), then make dinner (another TikTok recipe, a power bowl with roasted veggies and chickpea pasta).
7:00pm – I’ve been slacking on working out but excited to get back into it with a trampoline workout class at one of the local clubs, outfitted with a live DJ, club lights, and lots of energy.
8:00pm – Time to wind down, shower and get ready for bed. I usually watch some TikToks (where else would I find all of these recipes) and eventually put my phone down to read. Currently reading Malibu Rising by one of my favorite authors Taylor Jenkins Reid.
